Toy Match 3 is another fun addition to the popular match-3 series. The player receives tasks from a little girl, Amy, who wants to collect colorful blocks and other toys from checkerboards that feature various obstacles. They also attempt to earn three stars per level and various rewards.
The game has Story and Tournament modes. The player must unlock several levels of thousands in Story mode before the competitive one becomes available. With Tournament, they attempt to win the highest score possible within a limited number of moves.
In both modes, the player collects items by aligning three or more objects that have the same color or design on a board, creating and using special items, and unlocking, activating and using boosters. They complete an alignment with two or more adjacent matching toys by switching the positions of matching and non-matching toys in one move.
To create special items, the player aligns four or more matching toys, such as five in an L shape to form a cross blast and five in a line to make a rainbow-colored toy block bomb. If they switch the positions of two adjacent special items, they can generate a more powerful outcome via merge play. For example, the game clears away all items from a board and collects task-specific ones when the player merges two toy block bombs.
Toy Match 3 provides four boosters. The player can use a double arrow ring to manually switch the positions of two items, a star wand to clear a single space, and striped boosters to remove all items in selected columns and rows. At the end of each level, the player wins coins that they can later use to buy additional access to boosters.
